Song of the day – 1/23/08
I like the new trend of music becoming more fun and danceable again. Music was losing the fun and what fun is that? I think that Gnarls Barkley (Cee-lo & DangerMouse) nailed it with their debut album, “St. Elsewhere.” Now you’re seeing this crazy hipster driven electro-pop movement. Personally, I love that electro sound! Growing up in SoCal, my favorite place in the world to go to was Venice. I loved the scene there. I would go straight to the breakers and roller skate dancing circles and just take it in. BTW, someone needs to bring back that fresh roller skate dance style! This video is hilarious! I couldn’t find anything that really resembled that 80s Jam Skating style, but this is pretty entertaining: The music they were playing back then that really spoke to me was that old school electro-funk. Bands like Cybotron, The Bar-kays, Africa Bambaataa, Cameo, Debbie Ceb, Debbie Gibson, Connie, Egyptian Lover, etc. That sound got lost, but it’s good to see that crunchy electro sound coming back. Some do it right and some butcher it. This Uffie track is not the best track ever, but it’s fun as hell and it bangs. Uffie is on the Ed Banger label who is leading this electro-pop/hipster revolution. They got some gems, but you gotta dig for ‘em because they have a LOT of garbage in between.
Here is Uffie’s – “Pop the glock” enjoy…. Uffie – “Pop the Glock”
