SIA Trade Show 2008 wrap-up
I just got back from SIA late last night. Here is what I saw: A freakin’ circus! All the riders there act like they’re immature 13 year old jack-offs. Honestly, it’s ridiculous. I have been deep in the snowboard industry for about 12 years now and it has always allowed some of the cheeziest, corniest, dumbest trends and behavior. I’m REALLY hoping to get some pics from friends soon, but half the people are dressed like clowns. Bright pink, green, and orange beanies that don’t fit where everywhere. It’s hard to even explain how stupid snowboard trends are. On top of that, these delinquents are throwing things at each other, poking girls as they walk by, and slapping each other in the nuts. I’m all for getting loose with it, having fun, and being youthful, but this is non-sense. The would NEVER fly in surfing or even skateboarding! I also feel a sense of stagnation in the industry. I honestly feel like Burton is the only real brand out there, doing what they believe is dope, and being progressive. Everyone else is trying to copy them or each other. I will say that Lib Tech does their own thing as well, although I think they are COMPLETELY full of gimmicks. I don’t believe in their technology regardless of what others say. BTW, look how awful the design is up top. That’s bad. It was good to run into a lot of old friends and make some new connects, but even the parties were pretty lame. Hopefully I get more pics soon! ]

It’s exactly what I was talking about with this guy that works for the snowboard brand Bataleon. It became ridiculous and the worst is that, behind their “I don’t give a f***” attitude, they all take themselves pretty seriously. I am just happy to see that some of the best riders out there keep it real and don’t need to wear fancy, cheesy clothes to be “cool” and respected. I guess all these kids wear them to be someone, but at the end of the day they are just bunch of clones. Hopefully the brands and riders will leave this stupid trend alone soon and get back to our roots.
